Dear reader...

From Nov 28 through Dec 16, 1999 I traveled across Cuba. I stayed there for almost three weeks, allowing me to cross most of Cuba's provinces. Pinar del Rio and the three southernmost provinces of Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo still remain on my wish list, though. Then again, I think it's good to always leave something to be desired...

All in all I traveled 2000 kilometers by rental car from Holguín to Varadero. I got impressed by the natural wealth of the country and even more so by the genuine kindness, ingenuity and dignity of the Cuban people. I learned a lot about the current situation they are in.

During my stay I kept a diary. I would like to share with you some of the stories that I wrote down, since I believe reading stuff like this helps you to appreciate why some things are the way they are, and also to put your own everyday life in perspective.

I did not create these pages with the intention to provide you with a full-blown travel report. Instead I have tried to put my dearest memories into words in such a way that you are able to make a picture in your mind and imagine what went on. If after reading you feel you need more details I fear I have but one solution, which is for you to book a trip to Cuba and go out and meet the people yourself :)

Have fun!
